Document and Resources Blocks

EPRA Documents and EPRA Resources List

The website provides two blocks which are especially designed to present EPRA documents and resources.

This section explains the difference between the two blocks, and documents options in their edit forms.

1. Which block do I need?

  EPRA Documents EPRA Resources List
Where do items come from? Pulled automatically from the EPRA Document CRM/API Added manually in the block itself
What can it show? Documents already published in the CRM Anything: a document from the CMS or CRM API, a page on this website, an external URL, or an image
How do you add a new item? Upload/publish it in the CRM under the correct Site Section Click "Add Item" in the block and fill in the fields — no CRM involved
Best for "Latest reports", "Sustainability documents", "Academic research" type feeds that should stay in sync with the CRM automatically Curated items or lists of mixed content e.g. "Related resources", a set of hand-picked links, a features grid mixing pages/files/external links
Ordering Automatic (newest first) Manual — set the order by dragging items in the list
Filtering for visitors Optional keyword search and date-range filter Not applicable — the list is exactly what you built

Rule of thumb: if the content already exists in the EPRA CRM (or will be added there) and you want it to update automatically, use EPRA Documents. If you're hand-picking a short list of links/pages/files, use EPRA Resources List.

2. EPRA Documents block

2.1 How it works

This block connects to the EPRA Document CRM. Documents must first be uploaded to the CRM and assigned to the correct Interest / Site Section there — only once that's done will they be available to select or auto-include on the website. The block itself never uploads files; it only decides which CRM documents to display and how to display them.

2.2 "Content" tab

  • Title — Optional heading shown above the list of documents. Choose a heading style (H2, H3, etc.) from the dropdown.
  • Display: All Documents / Featured Documents* / Selected Documents — Controls which CRM documents appear:
    • All Documents — every document in the Interests you tick below.
    • Featured Documents* — only documents marked "Featured" in the CRM (still limited to the ticked Interests).
    • Selected Documents — you hand-pick specific documents from a search box (see below).
  • Select Documents (only shown when "Selected Documents" is chosen) — A searchable, drag-to-reorder list of documents. Type at least 2 characters to search the full CRM catalog. Tick the Interests in the Filters tab first to narrow this list down, or just search by document name. Drag entries to control the order they appear in on the page.
  • Display limit — Maximum number of documents to show at once. Leave blank for default.
  • Pagination — If ticked, visitors get "load more" / page navigation when there are more documents than fit on one page.
  • Include description — Shows the document's CRM description text under its title.
  • Include Interest label — Shows a small coloured badge with the document's theme (see §2.4) under its title.
  • Include date — Shows the document's publish date.
  • Include image — Shows a thumbnail image for each document (can be auto-generated from the first page of a PDF where available — see below).
  • Get missing thumbnails button — Bulk-generates preview thumbnail images for any PDF documents in the selected Interests that don't already have one. Safe to click any time — it skips documents that already have a thumbnail.
  • Enable keyword search — Adds a search box on the live page so visitors can filter the list by keyword.
  • Enable date range filter — Adds a "Filter by date" dropdown (past week/month/quarter/year/3/5/10/20 years/all time).

2.3 "Filters" tab

Tick which Interests (Site Sections in the CRM) this block should pull documents from.

2.4 "Design" tab

  • Template — Choose an alternative layout for the block. "Default (Documents)" is the standard research-grid card layout; other templates (if available) may present the list differently.
  • Background — Choose a card background colour, or leave on Automatic (by category) to let the block choose automatically based on the document's theme:
    • Indices & Research → blue (Primary)
    • Academic Research → gold/amber (Accent)
    • Policy → light blue (Primary Light)
    • Sustainability → green
Choosing a specific colour here overrides the automatic theme colour for every card in this block.
  • Grid Structure — How many columns the cards are arranged into (single column, two/three/four columns, or responsive combinations).

Note on "Interest label" themes: every CRM Site Section is automatically grouped into one of four broad themes (Indices & Research, Academic Research, Policy, Sustainability) based on its name. You don't need to configure this — it happens automatically. If a new Site Section is added in the CRM that doesn't obviously belong to Academic Research or Sustainability, it will default to the "Indices & Research" theme/colour.

3. EPRA Resources List block

3.1 How it works

This is a fully manual, flexible list builder. There is no CRM connection — every item is typed/selected directly in the block's edit form. Use it for curated collections that mix different types of links (documents, pages, external sites, or an image).

3.2 "Content" tab

Click "Add Item" to add a new entry to the list. Each item has:

  • Image — Optional thumbnail for this item. Pick a file from the file manager, or click "Generate from PDF" if the linked file is a PDF (auto-creates a thumbnail from its first page). "Unlink Image" removes the current image without deleting the underlying file.
  • Title — The heading text shown for this item.
  • Precis — A short description / summary shown under the title.
  • Link — Choose what this item links to:
    • Page — pick a page on this website.
    • External URL — a full web address (e.g. https://...).
    • Relative URL — a path within this site (e.g. /about-us).
    • File — pick a file from the file manager to link/download.
    • Document API — search and link directly to a document from the EPRA CRM (same catalog as the EPRA Documents block).
    • Image — link directly to an image file.
    • (leave as "-- None --" for no link)

Each item can be reordered by dragging its handle, duplicated, collapsed/expanded for editing, or removed using the icons on the right of each entry.

3.3 "Header" tab

  • Heading — Optional title shown above the whole list, with a heading-style dropdown (H2, H3, etc.).
  • Description — Optional rich-text intro paragraph shown under the heading, above the list of items.

3.4 "Design" tab

  • Template — Choose an alternative layout for the block. "Default (Resources List)" is the standard card layout.
  • Background — Card background colour: Default (Primary), White, Primary Lightest, Secondary Lightest, or Sustainability. Unlike EPRA Documents, there is no CRM category to auto-detect from, so pick the colour manually.
  • Layout — Vertical (image above text, stacked cards) or Horizontal (image beside text — image and content sit side by side on larger screens).
  • Styles — Optional extra style "tags" to apply to every card in this list, e.g. "feature" (larger, more prominent card styling) or "image" (image-first emphasis). Suggestions appear automatically; you can also type your own if a developer has added a custom one.
  • Grid Structure — How many columns the cards are arranged into (single column through four columns, or responsive combinations).

4. Quick troubleshooting

  • "I added a document to the CRM but it's not showing up" — check it's assigned to a Site Section that's ticked in the block's Filters tab, and that "All Documents" or "Featured Documents" mode is selected (or that it's included in "Selected Documents" if that mode is active).
  • "The thumbnail image looks wrong / missing" — for EPRA Documents, use "Get missing thumbnails" in the Content tab. For EPRA Resources List, use "Generate from PDF" on the individual item, or upload/pick your own image instead.
  • "I want a mix of documents and a link to another page in one list" — that's not possible in EPRA Documents (CRM documents only). Use EPRA Resources List instead and add a "Page" or "Document API" link type per item as needed.
