What is a REIT?

REITs are recognised as an effective structure to finance and manage listed real estate and are a key feature of the majority of the world's developed investment jurisdictions. At the time of writing, EPRA's view is that there are 35 countries worldwide that have REIT or 'REIT-like' legislation in place.

The REIT structure varies country-by-country, and it is constantly evolving. Below is an analysis of global REITs as of September 2010 and will include subsequent updates as amendments come into effect.
